Translate a Large PDF Without Splitting It
Translate a large PDF as one file. On Pro and Business you upload a PDF of up to 1 GB or 5,000 pages and get back one translated PDF, with no splitting beforehand and no merging afterwards. Google Translate stops at 10 MB and 300 pages and leaves text on scanned pages untranslated. DocTranslator reads scanned pages with OCR and keeps the layout of every page.
A free account takes files up to 20 MB or 20 pages and is billed per document, $1 a page for a PDF. Basic takes 100 MB or 300 pages and includes 1,000 pages every 30 days.
Splitting only makes sense when a file is bigger than your plan allows. A 2,000-page archive on Basic, for example, can be cut into parts with our Split PDF tool, or a heavy scan can be made lighter with Compress PDF. Otherwise, a plan with higher limits takes the file as it is.

A PDF has two limits, and whichever comes first applies. Scanned pages are pictures, so a 300-page scanned contract can weigh more than a 3,000-page typed manual.

Translating a PDF Larger Than 10 MB
When Google Translate says a document is too large, the file has passed its 10 MB or 300-page mark. There are three ways forward, and which one is right depends on what made the file big. The longer guide to PDFs too large for Google Translate walks through each one.
- Make it lighter. If photos or scans make up the weight, Compress PDF can bring a 40 MB brochure under the limit. It does nothing for a 450-page file, and squeezing scanned pages too hard blurs the letters OCR has to read.
- Cut it into parts. Split PDF divides the file by page ranges. Each part is then translated on its own, so a defined term can come out two different ways in parts one and four, and the translated parts have to be put back together with Merge PDF.
- Upload it whole. A plan that takes the file keeps it as one document: one upload, one translated PDF, page numbers unchanged.

Scanned pages
Long files are often scans: an old manual, a stack of signed contracts, a thesis photocopied in the library. Those pages hold no text, only a picture of it. OCR in our DocTranslator AI Engine reads the words off each page before translating them. OCR is included on every plan.
Scan quality
OCR can only read what it can see. A sharp, straight scan gives clean text. A blurred photo of a crumpled page gives more mistakes, and those carry into the translation. If you still have the paper, scanning it again at a higher resolution is worth the few minutes.
Layout
The translated text goes back where the original sat. Tables, images, headers and page order stay put, so page 212 of the translation lines up with page 212 of the source. That matters when a reviewer checks the two side by side, or when a court or a client refers to a page number.

Is It Safe to Upload a Confidential PDF?
Big files tend to be the sensitive ones: contracts, annual reports, patient records, product manuals that are not public yet. Uploads travel over an encrypted connection.
On the Free plan, the file and its translation are deleted about 24 hours after upload, so download the result soon. On a paid plan, files are kept while the subscription is active and for 30 days after it ends. You can delete a document yourself at any time. The details are in our privacy policy.

How do I translate a large PDF?
Create a free account, upload the PDF, pick the source and target languages and click Translate. You download one translated PDF with the original layout.
What is the maximum file size and page count?
Pro and Business take files up to 1 GB or 5,000 pages, Basic up to 100 MB or 300 pages, and Free up to 20 MB or 20 pages. Within those limits the file is translated as one document, without splitting.
Can I translate a large PDF for free?
Opening an account is free and needs no card. The Free plan takes PDFs up to 20 MB or 20 pages and prices each one per page, $1 a page with a $0.99 minimum, and the first page can be previewed free. Bigger files need Basic, which starts with a 7-day trial (card required), or Pro and Business.
Why does Google Translate say my PDF is too large?
Google Translate accepts documents up to 10 MB, and PDFs must have 300 pages or fewer. DocTranslator takes up to 1 GB or 5,000 pages on Pro and Business, so the same file can be uploaded whole.
Can I translate a PDF larger than 10 MB?
Yes. 10 MB is Google Translate's limit, not ours. Basic takes a PDF up to 100 MB and Pro and Business up to 1 GB. The Free plan stops at 20 MB, so a 50 MB file needs Basic or a higher plan.
Is there a PDF translator with no size limit?
Not one that publishes it: every online translator we have checked states a ceiling. DocTranslator's is 1 GB or 5,000 pages per file on Pro and Business. A file beyond that can be cut with Split PDF and translated in parts.
Can I translate a 100-page or 500-page PDF?
A 100-page PDF fits Basic, which takes up to 300 pages, and Pro and Business. A 500-page PDF is over Basic's limit, so it needs Pro or Business, which take up to 5,000 pages per file. The Free plan stops at 20 pages.
What does translating a large PDF cost?
On Free a PDF costs $1 a page, so a 20-page file is $20. Basic includes 1,000 pages every 30 days for $4.99 a month, and Pro ($19.99) and Business ($49.99) include 5,000. Your dashboard shows the price of a file before you pay. Full details are on the pricing page.
Can I translate a large scanned PDF?
Yes. OCR reads the text on each scanned page before it is translated. Clear, straight scans give the best result.
Does the translated PDF keep the layout?
Yes. Tables, images, headers and page order stay where they were, and only the text changes language. Page numbers in the translation match the original.
How long does a large PDF take?
It depends on the page count and on how many pages are scanned, because OCR reads every scanned page before it is translated. A short typed PDF is ready far sooner than a long scan, and a scanned file of several hundred pages can take hours. We do not publish a typical time because the range is that wide.
Can I translate a large PDF from English to Hindi or Tamil?
Yes. Hindi, Tamil and the rest of the 108 languages have the same file size and page limits, so a long English PDF can go to any of them in one upload.
Who processes my file?
Our own AI translation engine translates the document, with Google Cloud Translation as a fallback for some files. Scanned pages go through OCR first. The privacy policy explains how files are stored and deleted.
What does the Glossary do for a long file?
On Pro and Business you can set a glossary: your own translation for a product name, a defined term in a contract or a job title. In a 400-page file that keeps the term the same on page 3 and on page 390.
Do I need a certified translation instead?
AI translation is not certified. Immigration offices, courts and many universities ask for a certified translation by a human translator, which DocTranslator offers as a separate service, for example for USCIS.
Is it safe to upload a confidential PDF?
Uploads travel over an encrypted connection. Free plan files are deleted about 24 hours after upload, and paid plan files are kept while the subscription is active and for 30 days after.
