What happens when you turn an English PDF into Spanish
English and Spanish share the Latin alphabet and both read left to right, so the script itself is not the hard part. The catch is length. The same passage tends to grow by roughly 15 to 25 percent in Spanish, because the language leans on longer words, articles, and prepositions that English can skip. In a free-flowing document that just means more lines. In a PDF with fixed boxes, tables, and tight columns, that extra text has nowhere to go unless the layout is reflowed. DocTranslator translates the words and then re-fits them, so a table cell or a form field does not clip the Spanish that overflows it.
Spanish also carries characters that English does not. Vowels can take an acute accent (á, é, í, ó, ú), the letter ñ is its own letter rather than an n with a mark, and ü appears in a handful of words. Questions and exclamations open with inverted punctuation, ¿ and ¡, as well as closing with the usual ? and !. If the output font lacks those glyphs, you get blank squares or mangled accents, which is a common way machine-translated PDFs come out wrong. The output here embeds a font that covers the full set, so an accented word like "información" and a question wrapped in ¿ ... ? both render as written.
The same engine runs in reverse, from Spanish into English. Going that direction the text usually contracts rather than expands, but the layout still needs adjusting so columns and line breaks land in sensible places instead of leaving ragged gaps.

Spanish is one language with regional differences
Roughly 485 million people speak Spanish as a first language, which makes it the second most spoken native language in the world. It is the everyday language of Spain and most of Latin America, and although the two sides understand each other easily, the written varieties are not identical. Vocabulary diverges (a car is "coche" in Spain and often "carro" or "auto" in much of the Americas), and some grammar differs, such as the Spanish use of "vosotros" for an informal plural "you" that Latin American Spanish replaces with "ustedes."
For most documents the differences are small enough that a neutral, widely understood Spanish reads naturally on both sides of the Atlantic. When a document is aimed at a specific audience, say a contract for a client in Mexico or marketing copy for readers in Spain, it is worth having a native reviewer adjust the wording for that market.
Documents people translate between English and Spanish
English and Spanish is the busiest language pair for document work in the United States, so the PDFs that pass through it tend to be practical paperwork rather than literature:
- Business contracts, agreements, and proposals for clients and suppliers in Spanish-speaking markets
- Immigration and USCIS paperwork, including supporting evidence and cover letters
- Birth, marriage, and death certificates needed for visas, residency, or estate matters
- Marketing material, brochures, and product pages localized for Spain or Latin America
- User manuals, instructions, and safety sheets that ship with products in both languages
AI translation is the fast, low-cost choice when you mainly need to read a document, share it internally, or produce a first draft. Anything submitted to a court or a government office, a certificate filed with immigration for example, usually needs a certified, human-reviewed translation. See certified translation if you need an official stamp.

English to Spanish PDF translation FAQ
Will accents, ñ, and the ¿ ¡ marks show correctly in the translated PDF?
Yes. The output embeds a font that covers the full Spanish character set, so accented vowels (á, é, í, ó, ú), the letter ñ, ü, and the inverted opening marks ¿ and ¡ all render as written instead of turning into blank squares or broken accents. This is the detail that most often breaks in machine-translated PDFs.
Can I choose European Spanish or Latin American Spanish?
The AI produces a neutral, widely understood Spanish that reads naturally in both Spain and Latin America. The two varieties differ in some vocabulary and grammar, for example "vosotros" in Spain versus "ustedes" across much of the Americas. For a document aimed at one specific market, have a native reviewer adjust the wording for that region.
Can I translate from Spanish into English as well?
Yes, the pair works both ways and uses the same engine. English to Spanish text usually grows by about 15 to 25 percent, so the layout is reflowed to fit. Going the other way, Spanish to English, the text tends to contract, and the columns and line breaks are re-fitted so the page does not end up with ragged gaps.
Is AI translation good enough for immigration or certified use?
For reading a document, internal use, and drafts, yes. But birth, marriage, and death certificates and other paperwork filed with USCIS, a court, or another government office usually require a certified, human-reviewed translation. See our certified translation option for those.
How large a Spanish PDF can I translate?
Up to 1 GB or 5,000 pages on the Monthly and Annual plans, which covers full contracts and manuals. The $2 7-day trial covers up to 10 pages or 3,000 words, so you can check the Spanish output on a sample before committing.
What does English to Spanish PDF translation cost?
AI translation is $0.005/word and included with any plan: a $2 7-day trial, then $14.99/month (100 pages / 30,000 words) or $135/year (about $11.25/month, 25% off). See pricing for details.
My Spanish PDF is a scan. Can it still be translated?
Image files (JPG, JPEG, PNG) and image PDFs are supported. Clean, high-resolution scans give the best results, while faint or handwritten Spanish is harder to read accurately. When you have the original digital file, upload that instead for sharper output.
Does the layout stay the same when Spanish runs longer than the English?
The translated PDF keeps the original fonts, tables, images, and layout. Because Spanish typically takes more space than English, the text is re-fitted so it does not overflow tables, form fields, or tight columns. The page reads the way the original did, just in Spanish.
